Culver Academy 2014 Season Preview

Posted On: Monday, March 10, 2014

Culver Academy’s lacrosse program consistently ranks amongst the top programs in the nation.  Last year, the Eagles’ 18-2 record earned them the 7th place in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings.

Throughout the year, Culver only suffered losses to Boys’ Latin and the Hill Academy, two of the most elite high school teams.  The Eagles met the Hill Academy in their final game of the season, this time routing out Hill 19-10 to win their second consecutive North American Lacrosse Invitational title.

Going into the season, Culver Academy boasts the preseason prediction of 2nd in the nation.  Returning to the Eagles squad, midfielder Joel Tinney (Johns Hopkins) and attackman Pierre Bryne (Notre Dame) look to lead Culver to another successful season.  Tinney ranks first among high school players in the Midwest and Bryne ranks within the Top 20.

The Eagles have some major roles to fill, including midfielder Zach Currier and attackman Dean Ferris who left for Princeton and Ohio State, respectively.  Nonetheless Tinney, Bryne, and the rest of the returning squad are confident that they can keep Culver’s dominating presence on the field.

Kicking the season off on March 15, Culver Academy faces Carmel in its first game of the season.  From there the Eagles face some of the toughest teams in the nation including 34th ranked Episcopal Academy (3/16), 5th ranked Gilman (3/25), and 10th ranked McDonogh (3/27).  Though its schedule is challenging, Culver has a squad talented enough to rise to the occasion.
